Tooth Whitening and Tetracycline staining.

When I started working at Seasons of Smiles five months ago, one of my worries was that my teeth were embarrassing to me. How could I work with people who look at teeth all day long when mine were gray and stained? However, I was told by dentists over the years that they were tetracycline stained and translucent and there wasn’t really anything I could do about it. What causes tooth discoloration? I casually mentioned it to Michelle at the office that my teeth’s appearance bothered me. She told me to do something about it. When I told her that I couldn’t, Dr. Medina told me that we could try a product that helps with tetracycline staining. He told me to start with Sheer White whitening strips. I noticed right away that a lot of the staining disappeared pretty quickly. Next, he told me we would try Opalescence Go 10%. I was nervous about my teeth getting over sensitive but didn’t have any issues. Some people experience sensitivity while whitening. It typically disappears within a few days. My other concern was that I am a big coffee drinker. I figured that as soon as I had a cup of coffee, I would be right back where I started from, but I wasn’t. Whitening usually lasts several years. If your teeth start to discolor again over time, you simply repeat a treatment.

My teeth are really at a color that I am happy with now. I was out with my mom the other day, and she asked me to show her my teeth. Going back to my old embarrassments, I kind of grimaced at her but she told me she couldn’t believe how great my teeth looked!
