Penquis Certificate of Appreciation

We received this in the mail today. It is always appreciated when someone says thank you. A shout out to Penquis. You guys are making a difference!!!
The following was taken from their website “About Us”.
Incorporated in 1967, Penquis was created as a result of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to bring locally developed solutions to the multifaceted problems faced by the poor.
Penquis is a community of people who have joined in a common mission to assist individuals and families in preventing, reducing, or eliminating poverty in their lives and, through partnerships, to engage the community in addressing economic and social needs. Penquis primarily serves low- and moderate-income individuals in Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox Counties, though several programs extend well beyond these boundaries.

Community Action Agencies (CAAs)

Penquis is one of nearly 1100 Community Action Agencies across the United States and one of ten in Maine.  Community Action Agencies were established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 implemented to fight America’s War on Poverty. The ambitious purpose of the Act was clearly defined:
To eliminate the paradox of poverty in the midst of plenty in this nation by opening to everyone the opportunity for education and training, the opportunity to work, and the opportunity to live in decency and dignity. Community Action Agencies continue to thrive.
