11 unique Father’s Day gifts for the best dad in the word! Yours, of course :)
Hello, human beings with dads worldwide! It’s officially THAT week – the week where you wonder “What in the everliving heck should I get my pops for father’s day?” Have no fear, I perused the internet for you! As my eyes wandered over monogrammed cuff links and t-shirts proclaiming “Dad Bod!” (DEFINITELY the most 2017 gift you could possibly purchase) my thoughts wandered to father’s day of old….
What makes me an expert on father’s day gifts, you ask? WELL. Not only have I been giving them for 31 years, but I have three siblings. That’s 100+ gifts from us over the years! For a quick blast from the past, let’s go back 20 years. Pops likes golfing. It’s a thing that we kids know he likes. Cue ALL things golf related that are under $10! Tees, yes; balls, galore; witty “golf humor” books from thrift stores and ties (and more ties and more and more) emblazoned with gaudy golf related glory.
Fast forward 13 years. Pops is into biking. We, children, are older and (supposedly) wiser, so what ensues? All things bike related! Colorful jerseys; eclectic bike bells; and, of course, Butt’r! (The name says it all). But it’s 2018 and time for some variety!
So, without further ado, my tops picks for sweet gifts.
The classic “cool dad” shoe! Your dad (and mine!) rocked them your entire childhood. Guess what? They’re cool again! Easy to slip on and off, and they keep looking rad as they get grungier and grungier.
So there’s a bunch of shave clubs these days – companies that send fresh razor blades at a fraction of the price. I know, INNOVATIVE. I like Harry’s because it’s a little higher end- it’s currently $9 for a starter pack, then they’ll send you replacement packs for around $15, and you can set how often you want to receive them.
Here’s the thing: Everything you want in life is at The Bean. Zero degree camping bags; boots you can hike Khatadin in; freeze-dried space food. I know a gift certificate seems like the easy way out, but why not give one as a gift with a day date attached? Head to Portland, Maine and yank on the canoe paddle door handle that’s always open to you (24/7, 365, baby!) Step one: Commit at least three hours of your life wandering around the store. There is a LOT to see. Step two: Go take a break with Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. It’s wicked close 🙂
“The Ultimate Man’s Hoodie – gets better with age!”- Ben, my brother. Seriously, this hoodie has a cult following. Meticulously crafted by people that have a love affair with quality – it’s something your dad would put on and never take off.
Obviously, books are the best, but try gifting one you already devoured – then you can discuss! I’d highly recommend one of my favorite non-fiction books of all time: “The Lost City of Z.” You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll find out what (probably) happened to the lost city of gold that inspired many tall tales, but most notably “El Dorado.”
Okay, full disclaimer: These bags are ridiculously expensive. BUT- they are a thing of BEAUTY! Durable, rugged, made in America with quality materials- this is the kind of bag that looks better the more it gets kicked around.
If your dad is any sort of regular movie watcher, this present is a MUST. It’s $9.95 a month for a movie a day! at a theater near you. That’s right- less than ten bucks to go to a different movie every 24 hours! If your dad is a regular theatergoer, or even if he only goes twice a month, this gift is still worth it.
Of course, you can always make your present! Homemade beard oil is easy, fun, and you know he’ll think of you every time he uses it. My sisters swear by #8 – “Joe the Plumber” is fresh and pepperminty! Other great essential oil scents for men are Vetiver (calming, mmm) and Cedar.
Battling wicked Nor’easters or vicious traffic alike, your pops will be toasty warm AND stylish in this classic jacket!
This gift is GUARANTEED to be a hit if your dad is at all into tech. There’s no tangle of wires, which makes them perfect for use with any activity. They charge in their own nifty case, and the sound quality is excellent!
The best present of all? YOUR PRESENCE. I like google flights when looking for cheap flights – it compares everyone except Southwest Airlines. Get on a plane/train/automobile and go see your old man!
That’s it, folks! Have a great day honoring the man who is responsible for 50% of your awesomeness 🙂
